For some time now, I've been developing an interest in quilting. I'm drawn to the endless possibilities of geometry & patterns, colour & texture.

I began dabbling using the designs of others, being especially intrigued by the intricacy of celtic knots. At right is a quilt I created in 2002 to celebrate the marriage of my brother, Mike, to Lisa Stanley. Mike & Lisa, along with sons Sean & Matt, and co-produced daughter Eva, live near Deep River.

"The Island" is a quilt I created for my Mom & Dad in 2003. I was attracted by the title as much as the design as our family cottage on "the island" in Lac LaRonge Saskatchewan has been such a special place for our family.

For fun, and because they are very special to me, I made the boys the baby quilts they had never had...more grown-up versions, lined them with oven mitt lining for extra warmth. David's quilt on the left is my first original design.

This is a special quilt. When Mom was ill, I distracted myself by designing a quilt for her. I envisioned months of unpleasant treatments and wanted to provide her with something comforting & inspiring. Dad helped me choose the fabrics the day before we got the final installment of bad news, when it became clear that I would not be able to make the quilt for her in time.

I am forever grateful to two very dear and talented friends who took my fabric and my design and delivered a finished quilt to Mom in under 72 hours. Mom considered this to be one of her little Deep River miracles. I entered a duplicate in the Patches of Hope Cancer Society Quilt Auction held in Saskatchewan in October.

The Family Tree quilt was created for Andrew's parents, John & Margaret White, in celebration of their fiftieth wedding anniversary, May 21, 2006. This has been a popular quilt and I have been asked to do smaller ones for other anniversary celebrations.

Quilting is giving me a great deal of pleasure. I look forward to taking my place at the Valley Artisan's Coop in the future and continuing to get a head full of ideas out onto fabric.
